Naturally, we want to address all of these questions in our consultations, but we also thought it would be helpful to share them here on our FAQ page, so prospective clients can find some basic answers before we begin our process.   • What is interior design?

    Interior design is an art and a science that is dedicated to creating functional, safe and aesthetically pleasing spaces within corporate offices or at home. We believe that interior design is more than just planning and selecting feature pieces. With our clients, we aim to get to know you and coordinate the area around you to create a liveable or workable space that suits your specific needs. From lighting to furniture placement, everything is done with a purpose, and we are here to guide you through the process. 

  • What is the benefit of using a professional interior designer?

    There are several benefits to using an interior design professional for your home or office. First and foremost, we can help save you money by ensuring that you are able to avoid mistakes or missteps that only a professional could catch, including paying full price for mid-level furniture. Secondly, a professional designer will be able to handle logistics and coordinate any renovations or work being done on the home. Finally, you will be part of the process, and customizations will be made just for you.

  • What are the types of spaces that interior designers can work in?

    Interior designers can work on any space, corporate or residential. Generally, designers will be hired to complete work in private homes, especially for those who are renovating or moving into a new build. Additionally, we have been hired by Fortune 500 companies to redesign their offices, small start-ups to set up their first offices, and even retail stores to assess their current storefronts for optimal flow. The possibilities are endless, which is why we love it.  

  • Do you need to own your space to use an interior designer?

    No, you do not need to own your space to use an interior design service. However, if you are considering making physical changes to the space, you will need permission from the owner. We can work with you to provide the request, and work around limitations that are put on what you can do within your leased or rented space.  

  • How do you charge for your services —flat fee, hourly, or by project?

    Our services are generally charged on a per-project basis, but depending on the specific needs, we can also provide them on an hourly or flat fee basis. If you have specific needs or requests, we can see if we can make it work with our budgeting!  

  • How do you incorporate existing furniture into your process?

    We are big furniture lovers, and know that specific pieces can have some significant meaning to our customers. At the end of the day, interior design is designing the space around your needs, and if you have existing furniture that you want to keep in the space, we can design around it. We may offer some potential swaps, especially if you are looking for a specific look, but we are always happy to work with that old sofa or family armchair.  

  • How long does the typical interior design project take?

    Our typical project from initial discussion to final reveal normally takes between two and four weeks. However, we have some projects that are going to be quicker, and many that are going to be longer. Each project is going to be different, and we like to provide a customized timeline for each project we take on. However, if you have specific timelines that you need to hit, please let us know, and we can adjust to meet your needs.  

  • Do you offer construction or renovation services in addition to your design work?

    Yes, we are happy to provide a full interior design service offering that includes construction and renovation services. We work with some of the best contractors in the state and will ensure that your renovations or additions pass inspections and meet code requirements, even if you own a heritage home or office.  

  • How do you incorporate eco-friendly and sustainable design?

    We are proud to be an eco-friendly and sustainable designer here in Toledo, Ohio. We collaborate with some amazing vendors and brands that prioritize the planet, and we consistently strive to reuse or recycle our own designs. We do not believe in wasting a perfectly good piece of furniture, and our ability to up-cycle and recreate is second to none.  

  • How does your interior design process work?

    Our interior design process is focused on you. We believe that the best interior design is one that makes your life easier, whether through function or planning. We want to make your space work for you and your family or office. We want to get to know you, and we will work with you to plan out the process from the first consultation meeting. Generally, our process involves consultation, planning, construction, and finishing, but it ultimately depends on the project itself and what works best for our client and their space.  

  • How do you incorporate the owner's ideas into the design process?

    We incorporate your ideas into the design process from our very first meeting on the project. Interior design really comes down to the people using the space, and we want to ensure that you not only like looking at the space, but that it is also usable. From functionality to the specific flow of the room, we will work hand in hand with you to design your space from the ground up. It is the Twenty Two Design way.  

  • Do you provide your clients with 3D renderings or visualizations during the interior design process?

    Yes, we utilize several tools to create 3D renderings and visualizations during our design process. Once we move on from our initial consultations, depending on your space, we may request that we do a laser scan of your space to build the 3D renderings. Once done, we can literally plug and play to find the perfect designs and layout virtually to meet your needs and design goals.   

  • How do you incorporate changes into the process?

    We love constructive feedback and are able to incorporate changes throughout the process. Naturally, we want to finalize the design before we start the renovation process, and we will work with you to ensure that we have a design that works for your space. However, we want to incorporate changes later in the process. Still, these can affect the timelines and the overall budget, depending on the specific changes and the timing at which they are requested.  

  • Do you provide commercial and residential interior design services?

    Yes, as one of the top interior design companies in Ohio we are pleased to offer both commercial and residential interior design services. On the residential side, we generally focus on projects that will bring in new energy to the space and rethink how the space is being used. Toledo apartments and homes are in high demand, and investing the time to design for usability and flow is typically worth the effort. On the other hand, our commercial design services focus on optimizing workflow and creating a space where staff can feel comfortable and productive. We have worked with everyone from Fortune 500 companies to law offices and even start-ups, so whether you are looking to modernize an aging office or need to set up your first office, we can help guide the process and create a space in which your employees will actually want to come into the office to enjoy.  

  • How do you keep projects on schedule and within budget?

    For many of our clients, the most important thing that we do as an interior design company is keep their projects on schedule and within budget. We are interior designers, but we also serve as project managers and are happy to take control when needed. In terms of scheduling, when we are running the show, we are working with our own team of contractors who know when they need to show up and what they are doing that day. We do not work with sub-par contractors, and their ability to show up and deliver is the most important aspect of their partnership. On the budget side, we are going to need to make some tough decisions, especially if we have a tight budget to make the changes. We can work with you to find budget-friendly solutions. However, depending on the project and what we discover once we start work, flexibility and the ability to make adjustments will be essential to keep most of these larger projects within the initial budget, especially when dealing with remodeling.
